Adriana Couto Silva

I am a licensed psychotherapist and psychoanalyst with over 30 years of experience in the healthcare professions. I am licensed to practice in Washington D.C., Maryland, and New York. My therapeutic approach centers on active, empathic listening and fostering a strong, collaborative relationship with each patient.

As a trilingual clinician, I offer therapy in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. I work extensively with migrants and individuals navigating issues of identity, belonging, and the search for home in unfamiliar environments. My practice is grounded in cultural sensitivity, psychoanalytic insight, and a deep respect for each person’s unique life journey.

MS, MA, LCPC

My work with couples is rooted in Relational and Self Psychology approaches, which means I understand relationships as co-created experiences shaped by each partner’s internal world, developmental needs, and trauma history. I also recognize that as your therapist, I am part of the relational field, my presence, perceptions, and emotional attunement are actively engaged in the process.

Therapy becomes a shared space where we can slow down and begin to understand what’s happening between you, not from the outside looking in, but through real, in-the-moment experiences of connection, misattunement, and repair. Together, we explore how past wounds may be showing up in present dynamics, and how those patterns might shift when truly seen and felt.

I also draw on polyvagal theory to support awareness of the body and nervous system. When we recognize how states of safety or threat impact our ability to connect, we can begin to cultivate ways of relating that support co-regulation, helping each other return to calm, openness, and trust.
